Fear Factor

Moses was now one hundred and twenty years old.  He was slowing down and finding it difficult to assume his leadership responsibilities.  He knew he wasn’t going to live much longer and so he called Israel’s next leader to his side.  Johsua had proven that he was the man for the job, and now he was officially commissioned to take charge and lead God’s people over the Jordan into the Promised Land.  

Moses’ words to Joshua were stirring: “Be strong and of good courage, do not fear nor be afraid of them; for the Lord your God, He is the One who goes with you.  He will not leave you nor forsake you.” (Deuteronomy 31:6).  Three times these words were spoken to the new leader.  And no wonder; he was about to undertake one of the largest responsibilities of his life and needed a massive dose of encouragement.  The last thing he needed was to come down with fear.

Central Matters

Additional Associate Pastor for Central: We are thrilled to announce the arrival of Pastor Fred and Lorrie Dana who will be joining the ministerial team here at Central.  Pastor Fred comes with twenty-seven years of ministry experience that includes pastoring and teaching.  Pastor Fred and Lorrie have two children; Jared who is married with children and living in Wisconsin, and Emily, who is also married with children and living in southern California. Pastor Fred’s ministry at Central will focus on discipleship, family life, and some administrative duties. We look forward to introducing them when they arrive in Sacramento.

Facelift to Your Neighbor Thrift Store: Are you wondering where our thrift store has moved to?  The good news is, we haven’t gone anywhere!  Central’s thrift store ministry has been undergoing a change to make it more representative and appealing to our community.  Our new name is “Smart Thrift” because God has called us to live wisely in today’s world.  Come check out the renovations (6700 Folsom Blvd, Sacramento, CA), and please continue to support this community ministry with your prayers and donations.  More information coming soon.

General Conference (GC) Session: Delegates to the 60th General Conference Session continue to meet this week praying for and discussing the direction of God’s remnant church into the future.  Please continue to keep the session in your prayers.  And if you would like to watch any of the morning and evening programs you can do so by going to the Hope Channel on the internet – www.hopetv.org/church

Latest news from the GC Session: On Friday, July 3, Elder Ted Wilson was re-elected president of the General Conference.  On Monday, July 5, Elder Dan Jackson was re-elected president of the North American Division. Discussions continue over changes to some wording in the church manual.  The changes being considered include changing the name “minister” to “pastor, and changing “man/men” in connection to ministers to “individual.” Wednesday, July 8, the issue of women’s ordination will be discussed.

Around the Pacific Union Conference

Pacific Union College and the Ellen G. White Estate presents, “Ellen G. White Centennial Legacy Conference,” celebrating the significance of Ellen G.
