Prayer Priorities

A new year is a great time to start working on new priorities.  It’s easy to meander through life, going with the flow, adopting what’s important to the culture around us without considering what’s truly important.  I once read something that tends to snap me back into line, or at the very least, reality whenever I recall it.  The author challenged, “Show me your check book and your calendar and I’ll show you your priorities.”  Now he wasn’t asking for a sneak peek of my private affairs, but he was making a profound point; where we put our time and treasure’s (I would also add talents) reveals what we consider to be of highest priority.  

Some years back I was confronted with the need to make prayer more of a priority in my life.  I know that sounds odd coming from a pastor, but nonetheless it was true.  Understand,  I was a praying man.  I spent quiet, personal time in prayer.  I prayed with my family.  I prayed in church.  I prayed with those I visited with.  But prayer wasn’t as much a priority as it should have been to me.  Let me explain what I mean...

Sanctuary Lights Installed! A special thank you to each who have brought this second phase in our media ministry program to completion. We now have new LED lights in our sanctuary to enhance our TV programming and to help save money over the long haul. We thank God for His faithfulness to us.

Women in the Bible & Me. Starting January 13 from 10 AM to Noon a 14-part Bible study for women will begin in the Family Life Room of the church. This is a great chance to join with other women and invite others who are seeking Jesus to come and learn important Bible truth pertinent to women.

Central Business Meeting: Calling all members! On Wednesday, January 14 @ 7 PM we will be conducting our annual business meeting. Join us as exciting reports are shared and plans are anticipated for the new year. Your presence, voice, and support are much appreciated.

Dennis Priebe Coming to Central! Join us Friday, January 16 @ 7 PM and Sabbath, January 17 @ 11 AM and again from 1:15 to 4:15 PM for an engaging Bible series on the all-important topic of righteousness by faith.  All are welcome to attend.  Plan to join us for a buffet luncheon.  All presentations will be live streamed for those living out of town.

Heritage Singers Concert: Join us on Sabbath, January 17 @ 5 PM for an evening of rich gospel music. Tell a friend. Invite the family to a free community event for all.

Fijian Group Dedication: We are excited to announce that on Sabbath, January 24 @ 5 PM our Fijian group will be dedicated as a church company, the first of its kind in the North American Division. You are cordially invited to this groundbreaking event that will take place in the church sanctuary.  We look forward to seeing you there.

Central’s 2nd Annual Family Life Retreat: Mark your calendars for this year’s Family Life retreat to Leoni Meadows Retreat Center taking place April 10 to 12, 2015.  Guest presenters, children’s programming, relaxing atmosphere in nature, and more all await you and your family.

We are still in need of drivers from all zip codes willing to give rides to individuals that do not have transportation. Sacramento Adventist Academy (SAA) Volleyball - Form a 4-5 person coed team and come join the Quads Volleyball Tournament at the SAA gym on January 18th from 3:00-7:30. The cost is $15 per person which will benefit the SAA junior class. Food will also be sold. Contact Alexa Bassett (916-533-4548) to confirm your team.

NAD will be the recipient of this quarter's Mission Offering. The projects to benefit from the offering will include 1) Harvest Time Appalachia Evangelism Program in West Virginia; 2) bath houses and restrooms for Alaska's Camp Polaris Youth Camp; 3) gyms for Adventist schools in Micronesia; and 4) the children's project will be for mattresses for the children at Camp Polaris. 

ADRA Canada has been awarded a $1.1 million grant for increased assistance for the people of Iraq who have been affected by regional conflicts. Thousands have had to flee their homes with nothing more than what they can carry. Beginning January 15, ADRA will use the funds to provide urgently needed winter items for over 25,000 people in the Erbil region of Iraq. To donate click here. http://www.adra.ca/donate/.
