Ropes Of Sand
At this time of the year many people are making or have made New Year's resolutions. They might include exercising more, eating better, eliminating debt, or giving more time to a spouse and family. This always seems to be a great time for a new beginning.
For a follower of Jesus, each new morning is an opportunity for a fresh start. If we have stumbled in a moment of hurtful anger and words, or any other form of sin and selfishness, (fill in the blanks) we don't need to wait until the next January 1 to seek a clean slate. We can repent and confess any sin to our compassionate God, and be reassured of His complete forgiveness at that very moment.
We have all experienced that our "promises and resolutions are like ropes of sand," but "What you need to understand is the true force of the will. This is the governing power in the nature of man. Everything depends on the right action of the will. The power of choice God has given to men; it is theirs to exercise. You cannot change your heart...but you can choose to serve Him (Jesus). You can give Him your will and He can work in you to do according to His good pleasure. Thus your whole nature will be brought under the control of the Spirit of Christ; your affections will be centered upon Him; your thoughts will be in harmony with Him." (Steps to Christ)
"Delight thyself also in the LORD; and He shall give thee the desires of thine heart. Commit thy way unto the LORD; trust also in Him; and He shall bring it to pass." (Psalm 37:4,5)
