Don’t Be Deceived

If I climbed up on the roof of my house and thought I could fly, does it matter what I believe when instead of going up I end up falling down and doing my body some great injury?  Does it matter what a person believes?

You may find this fascinating, but if you asked a number of Christians this question they will strangely answer no.  Bear with me here.  If you asked the average Christian how a person is saved they will likely tell you that a person can only be saved through faith in Jesus Christ, and they would be absolutely and Biblically correct in giving that answer.  Belief on Jesus brings salvation.  No problem there.

However, if you ask the same Christians why they believe what they believe about the Bible and why another Christian believes something else about the Bible, and the difference is significant, generally, when pressed, you’ll get the response, “Well, it doesn’t matter what you really believe just as long as everyone believes on Jesus.”

As sincere as these people are, would they be correct in making that assertion?...

News & Announcements

Adventist mission pilot Bob Roberts, longtime missionary to Africa and Southeast Asia, was killed, along with several passengers, in a plane crash last week in Indonesia.  Roberts' work included delivering food, medicine and urgently needed supplies, as well as transporting sick and needy passengers to and from the many isolated mountain villages of Papua. He was well known throughout the islands and had flown more than a thousand relief flights. Watch the feature video, "Called to Fly," of Bob’s mission work in Papua. To learn more go here.

The Seventh-day Adventist Church joined an amicus brief filed today in a United States Federal Court of Appeals challenging a November ruling that the “parsonage exemption” is unconstitutional. In an interview, GC Associate General Counsel Todd McFarland said that the religious coalition doesn’t believe the exemption violates the Establishment Clause, noting that the tax code contains other similar exemptions. Other exemptions, McFarland said, include teachers and professors working for educational institutions, military personnel, employee lodging for the convenience of the employer, as well as certain tax-payers living abroad. Dear friend,

We would like to warmly welcome you to Central Happenings – a weekly e-newsletter from your pastoral staff to inform, update, and keep in touch.

It was George Bernard Shaw who once quipped, “The single biggest problem in communication is the illusion that it has taken place.”  Ask anyone and they will tell you how true this is.  Healthy communication is a prerequisite to healthy relationships, and no less for the church family.

We plan to make Central Happenings a pithy and relevant read with the obvious goal to simply communicate.  You can expect each edition to contain:

Pastor’s Blog - a refreshing Biblical insight from your pastors.

Central News & Happenings – important info on news and events taking place at Central.

Bulletin Board – includes various news, resources, programs, and/or initiatives taking place in the Seventh-day Adventist Church locally and around the world that may impact you.

We trust you’ll find Central Happenings (not to be confused with The Central Connection put together by Central’s Communication Department) another great resource that will allow you to stay in touch with your church family.  As your pastoral staff we look forward to continuing to reach out to you, including through this new way, as we seek to press together for the work at hand and in preparation for the soon return of Jesus.
