More Than You Know
Probably one of the saddest verses in the entire Bible has to be those penned by John, Jesus beloved disciple. He recorded: “He [Jesus] was in the world, and the world was made through Him, and the world did not know Him. He came to His own, and His own did not receive Him.” - John 1:10, 11
You see, Jesus, the Son of God, came into this world as a helpless baby, grew to become a man, and eventually His own people turned their back on Him. These were the ones who were supposed to be looking for the coming of the Messiah. Countless prophecies pointed to the time, to the place, to the mission, yet they completely missed it…they missed Him!
That was then, what about today…what about you? Jesus was in their very midst and they didn’t comprehend the divine. Could He be right near you but because of suffering, or a life spinning out of control, or unanswered questions you fail to recognize Him?
We know God is the original gift giver. He gave us His Son (John 3:16). When we accept Jesus, rather than un-accept Him, we have more than we realize. We have life eternal, and life abundant here and now! On top of that we have hope and forgiveness and cleansing and power!
Now I realize that this might not be new to you but discovering this for the first time could be something like the experience of a man in England who recently found a small shining cup under his bed in his house. It had been there for years. His dad had been in the scrap metal business and before he died he gave his son, this man, several things, including that cup which he put in a box and left under his bed. Decades later he thought about that old box and that old cup and decided to have it looked at. So he took it down to the British Museum in London and had the experts look it over. That cup that he had abandoned to the cobwebs years ago was dated before the time of Christ and was worth over $100,000!
He knew it was there….very aware that he owned it, but he just didn’t know what its true value was. And sometimes that can be true when it comes to the people of God and what they realize Jesus can really bring into the life. Don’t let Jesus be unaccepted in your life this Christmas…this coming year. Accept Him entirely, with all your heart. And in receiving Jesus, know without a doubt that you have received much more than you realize!
From all of the ministry team here at Sacramento Central, we want to wish you a joyous Christmas and a blessed New Year!
