Statement Regarding the Coronavirus

Dear friends.

We have been keeping a close eye on the spread of the coronavirus and taking in a lot of information about it. It's an unfortunate situation and we pray for the many who have been greatly affected by it's outbreak. We don't know how long it will continue to spread, but we should do all that we can to remain healthy, cooperate with local and state authorities, and help others who might be struggling at this time.

Some of you are asking, "Are we doing church on Sabbath during this time? Are all events continuing as usual or are they being canceled?" Here is our response to these questions at the moment:

Sabbath Services
  • If you wish to come, we will have Sabbath School and church this coming Sabbath (March 14). However, communion has been canceled. To learn what precautionary measures the church is taking, please see below.
  • If you choose not to come, you are welcome to join us via streaming at saccentral.org. Scroll down to the bottom of the homepage to find the live stream.
  • We are not sure, however, whether services will continue on the 21st or the following week. They may be canceled. Please check with the various communication outlets of Central to keep updated (see below how you can stay connected). We are committed to keeping you informed.
Potlucks & Meals
  • We are also canceling all general potlucks for the month of March (March 21).
  • We are also canceling all other smaller potlucks across campus throughout March starting this Sabbath (March 14). Check with the respective ministry leaders to confirm whether they will still meet.
  • If you wish to bring a sack lunch to eat in the Camellia Room, you're welcome to do so, however, please do not share your food.
Sabbath Afternoon Meetings & Activities
  • As far as we know, some Sabbath afternoon ministry meetings this week are continuing as usual. Please check with the respective leaders of those ministries to get more details. Men's and Women's Ministries, however, has been canceled for this Sabbath. All future afternoon meetings may also be canceled.
  • Light Sacramento this Sabbath afternoon is still a go.
Mid-Week Meetings
  • Prayer meeting will continue into next week, but please be aware that these may be canceled in the near future too.
  • Any other scheduled mid-week events may be canceled for the month of March. Again, stay tuned for more information on that.
If you wish to attend church this week, please keep the following in mind:
  • All who are sick are advised to stay home (we want to spread the gospel, not sickness!).
  • If you are elderly and your health is in some way compromised, please do not attend church.
  • No matter your age, if your health is compromised in some way, you may want to avoid coming to church.
  • There are sanitizer dispensers in every room across campus, including the foyer of the church. They are filled and will remain so for your convenience and use.
  • Our Safety Officers will be ensure that door handles and surfaces are wiped often throughout the day with disinfectant towels.
  • Our paid and volunteer staff have all been informed that shaking hands is not necessary during this time.
We would also encourage that you take care of yourselves. Please consider the following:
  • We can all keep ourselves healthy by following the basic laws of health: proper nutrition (especially lots of antioxidant foods right now), consistent exercise, drinking plenty of water, getting lots of sunshine, living temperately, getting plenty of fresh air, and getting a good nights sleep.
  • Try boosting your immune system naturally through Vitamin C/B6/E, garlic, echinacea, goldenseal, colloidal silver, elderberry, etc. Also keep in mind that the coronavirus doesn't like zinc or selenium (found in brazil nuts) either.
  • Above all, trust God with your cares and worries (stress can suppress your immune system).
  • And of course, keep your hands washed and away from your face.
God has blessed Seventh-day Adventist's with important and life-saving information related to our health. He has put us in the world to help us others, especially during times of concern and crisis. So may we each be resourceful during this hour, and not fearful.

Prevention, Natural Remedies and the Coronavirus

Panic or Peace?

"In times of crisis, the world needs steady people who are strengthened by God’s grace and selfless by God’s power. Worry accomplishes nothing except weakness of heart and head. It’s been said that 90 percent of the things we worry or become panicked about never happen, and the other 10 percent are outside our control.

"While we remain on alert against viruses of doctrine or disease, worrying won’t change our circumstances or lower our chance of infection. It won’t help us fight off illness or move us to action.

"Remind yourself continually: it takes the same amount of energy to worry as to pray. One leads to peace, the other to panic. Choose wisely." — Todd Wagner
